The RC-Series is a family of electronic communicating thermostats that can be controlled both locally and by remote commands from HAI and other systems. The RC-Series includes models designed for conventional single stage heat/cool, heat pump and multi-stage systems.

This gorgeous thermostat has an extra pair of connections, and two temperature settings. When you short the extra contacts together, the thermostat uses the "night" setting (which could also be an "away" or "anti-freeze" setting.) Run an extra pair of wires from the thermostat to something that can connect the wires via remote control, and you have a remotely controllable thermostat!

There are two basic ways to hook up this thermostat: Run the two wires to a Universal Module.Plug in the Universal Module and you can send X-10 commands from any X-10 controller (including a telephone transponder) to operate the thermostat. This mode is quite popular with the "mountain cabin" folks. Imagine calling your cabin from your cell-phone while on the way to tell it to warm up the place! And always being assured that, when away, the thermostat will not let the pipes freeze.

RCS X-10 Compatible Thermostats

The RCS X-10 compatible thermostats come in two pieces; the control unit mounts back at the HVAC system and connects directly to the HVAC system. The wall display unit connects to the control unit with 4 wires.

The RCS X-10 compatible thermostats have two options, which account for the four versions. The one-way thermostats can receive and be controlled by X-10 commands and be manually set via the thermostat. The bi-directional thermostats can be "queried" via X-10 to find out the current temperature and thermostat setting.

The remote sensor option removes the actual thermometer from the thermostat and replaces it with a four-conductor interface for a remote sensor.

Use this thermostat for full X-10 control of your HVAC system. It installs in two pieces: The thermostat, which replaces your existing thermostat. And the control unit, which goes back by your HVAC equipment. The control unit and the thermostat talk over the same wires that your old thermostat used. (4 conductors min.) The control unit has a plug-in power supply and a TW523 to receive the X-10 commands. The control unit connects to the HVAC equipment where your original thermostat wires connected.

For control, you can adjust the mode and temperature setting at the thermostat, send X-10 commands manually from any X-10 controller or from a whole-house controller such as ActiveHome or HomeVision.

Use this small remote temperature sensor with the TXB16 thermostat. It connects to the thermostat with four conductor wire. (Like our 1242Acable.) Place the remote sensor near an air return duct for best results.
